rue's born a few days after 9/11, a fact that plays on constant repeat - the kind of sorrow her parents clung to while holding her and watching the towers fall, over, over, and over... perhaps that tragedy had her marked for life, growing up in new york's suburban nightmare, wishing she was normal, only to be dragged to doctors who eagerly had her diagnosed as OCD, ADD, general anxiety disorder, and possibly bipolar disorder.anxiety becoming a normal part of her every day, until that was replaced by a new sort of pain and emptiness - her father being diagnosed with cancer, her days bleakly spent by his bedside. he never noticed as she started stealing his pills, little mouthfuls of happiness to swallow up that weight of his illness for her, until she was the one left finding him dead, body taken out by paramedics as she quietly found her last link to reality slipping away.drugs are her form of escape, and rue finds that it hardly even matters what she's taking, as long as it provides a moment of peace from the fractured sorrow she feels over the loss of her father. clinging onto anything that feels out of the ordinary, including the new girl in town, a girl that she feels destined to be best friends with.too bad that it all falls to pieces in the course of a few months, with rue's addiction growing worse and worse beneath the burgeoning emotions she wasn't prepared to feel. with jules, she finds herself confused about what and who she is, and by the end of things, she watches jules zip by on a train, turning to her sponsor ali for comfort and advice until jules' eventual return to east highland.too bad that second chances don't net out. the new year only brings new problems to rue, who finds herself selling drugs for laurie, a local drug dealer, but instead of selling them... it's all too clear that her intent is to use what she can until there was no more of her left. and given the stress of it all, and her new friendship with the new boy that comes to town, rue finds her life coming apart again, all too soon.fame & fortune verse
growing up in east highland, it'd be a stretch to say that anybody expected much of anything from rue bennett. a burnout, a failure, she was more limping through life than anything, forever wrapped tightly in the different diagnosis she received as a child that kept her on a stricter schedule of pills that she was meant to take... but as she grew older, her father grew sicker. and at 10, rue learned what it meant to take care of the person who was meant to take care of you, as her father fell ill with an aggressive form of cancer that eventually lead to his death when rue was 14 years old.it all spirals from there for rue, who falls deep into addiction, landing in rehab by her 16th summer after overdosing on her bedroom floor, being found just in time by her sister. by 17, she meets jules vaughn, who she dates for months and finds herself more fucked up by the end of it. it takes an intervention and a night on the run from the cops for rue's luck to run dry, and her to forcefully enter sobriety. by 18, she's fucked it all up again, and her mother kicks her out to fend for herself.rue makes her way to hollywood, the only place where she thinks she can make anything out of the lies she seemingly is good at telling. given a few months, she starts booking bit parts in horror movies, but quickly gains status after her breakout role within a cult horror movie. it's there she meets a producer ; they date for a few years, rue even quitting acting at one point beneath the jealous and constricting relationship. but they break up, rue left to deal with the embarrassing fallout of the endless articles detailing her as the example of the hollywood trope, of older men and younger women.but it's then when rue's last film becomes the surprise hit of the summer. and there, her career has only taken off, becoming the scream queen and indie darling of hollywood. sure, she still has a drug problem... but who doesn't anymore?( for anything romance related, rue is now closed to any further ships. )horror verse
